PRINTMAKING CLASSES

STARTING IN SEPTEMBER


ETCHING IKim Van Someren

$220+ $10 supply fee

Wednesdays
Sept. 3, 10, 24 & Oct. 1, 6-10pm

This class will cover etching processes on copper- dry point, using grounds, aquatint, and sugar lift.  Using low toxicity methods, students will learn plate planning, making, and printing techniques.  Perfect for beginners, invaluable for returning students.

MONOTYPE • Kappy Trigg

Mondays
Sept. 22 - Oct. 6, 6:30 - 10pm

Starting with black & white and simple additive/subtractive techniques, class will focus on color mixing, stenciling, trace monotype, collage, and layering techniques. Use of acrylic plates, ink, some tools and brushes included.

BOOTCAMP
A SURVEY OF PRINTMAKING •

This class is an introduction to monotype, linoleum carving and etching. It will cover both the basics of printmaking (paper and plate preparation, registration, press handling), and the basics of each technique.

INTRO TO SILKSCREEN

Oct. 13 - Nov. 3, 6-10pm

This course covers various stencil making techniques: cut paper stencils, direct drawing crayon resist block out, photographic emulsion techniques, various hand drawn positive techniques, Ink mixing, registration and various printing methods will be covered.  Supply fee includes screen, and use of squeegees, inks, and backboards.

ETCHING II •

Further develop and perfect techniques learned in Etching I. Topics covered will be advanced aquatint, spirit ground, sugar lift, and multiple plate printing. Students must have some knowledge of basic etching techniques.

COLLAGRAPH WORKSHOP

Saturdays
Oct. 11 & 18, 10am- 3pm

The Collagraph is a print made from a collage of things glued on a printing plate.  It is the perfect medium for exploring various materials, textures and shapes, dark and light values. The resulting prints are highly embossed and use very low-toxic supplies.  Week one: exploration of techniques and application in making plates. Week two: printing the plates.

CHINE COLLE WORKSHOP

This workshop will focus on basic and advanced chine colle methods. Participants will be asked to bring existing etched plates, and after a short demonstration, they will have the opportunity to try a variety of chine colle techniques. There will also be a demonstration on the basics of mezzotint, and a few rockers will be available for those interested in getting hands-on experience. Throughout the workshop technical developments will be discussed in the context of individual aesthetic and conceptual concerns. Participants will also be encouraged to discuss ideas and content in a group context so as to encourage conceptual development alongside technical explorations.

Registration Date:
Registration after dates mentioned above will incurr an additional $30 fee (as noted above). To benefit the discounted rate of $30, we must receive your registration a week prior to class start. If the class is on a week-end, the cut-off date is the Friday a week before your class.

Cancellation policy:
Due to limited class size and our desire to optimize your time with your instructor: No portion of class fee will be refunded or applied to another class if cancellation occurs less than two weeks before class starts.

Friday evenings -- free studio access
Students get additional studio access on Fridays, 6-10pm from the second week of the quarter until the last Friday of the quarter. RSVP is necessary, please see your confirmation letter for contact details. Currently enrolled students only.

The studio is available on an 24/7 basis for $130 /month with a six month commitment
